As the U.S. Open returns to San Francisco this year for its 112th annual competition, the Presidio Golf Club — San Francisco’s original private golf club in the tradition of St. Andrews, with the course itself open to the public — celebrates both the tournament and the club’s own rich history with special events and San Francisco's best value in private golf membership.
Just three San Francisco natives have won the U.S. Open, including Presidio Golf Club member Lawson Little Jr. Recently, the Club honored his legacy with special dedication of the clubhouse’s Lawson Little Jr. Room, which holds plaques and club trophies reflective of its 117-year history and acts as one of the main social rooms at the club.
Guests present at the dedication included the USF Men’s Golf Team, Presidio Golf Club members, officials from the U.S. Open Committee, and Lawson Little Jr.’s own grandson. Little was the Club’s most accomplished member, winning the U.S. and British amateur competitions in consecutive years, an incredible 31 consecutive match-play tournaments, and ultimately the U.S. Open in 1940. In addition to other famous members like 2012 Curtis Cup Captain Dr. Patricia Cornett and baseball legend Joe DiMaggio, Little called the Presidio Golf Club home for over 40 years.
To celebrate the U.S. Open and honor local legends, the Presidio Golf Club will welcome new members with a special limited-time offer. Through the end of 2012, new members of the Presidio Golf Club will receive the reduced monthly membership fee of $399 and pay no initiation fee.
The Presidio Golf Club membership benefits include:
All levels of skill are encouraged to join Presidio Golf Club, and special introductory membership rates offer great value to beginning, young and seasoned golfers alike. With over 100 years of tradition, the Presidio Golf Club’s benefits and camaraderie are truly San Francisco’s best-kept golf secret. Club member Michael St. Peters says in addition to his passion for golf, he loves to be a member of “the club that brought golf to San Francisco. It’s really special to be part of a club so rich in tradition and to play this special course that was home to such legends at Joe DiMaggio and Lawson Little Jr.”
Since 1895, the Presidio Golf Club has provided the classic private club experience for San Francisco’s golfers. With a prime location just minutes from downtown San Francisco, the Presidio’s 18-hole course offers 6,500 yards of challenging golf winding through beautiful Eucalyptus and Monterey Pine trees in The City's trademark hills. The Presidio Golf Course is a preeminent leader in sustainable golf course maintenance practices, and is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. Today the private Presidio Golf Club still thrives with golf and social memberships on par with any in the San Francisco area. Presidio Golf Club is member owned and operated and managed under the direction of Colleen Daly, member of Certified Managers Association of America.
