Drew Brees is heading back to San Diego … to play golf at one of the area’s best resorts as he and his buddies tee it up at La Costa Resort & Spa for this year’s Celebrity Championship, May 18-20.

Simply put, the Drew Brees Celebrity Championship is one of the best golf events to get up close and personal with swinging stars of sports and screens, both big and small. And the new host resort, La Costa, with its glamorous history of celebrity golf, will make this year’s event bigger and better than ever.

“The move to La Costa will help take our event to the next level and enhance the celebrity competition,” says Brees of the tournament now in its 14th year (known prior to 2010 as the Celebrity Classic hosted by Stan Humphries). “We will offer world-class accommodations and PGA Tour-caliber golf.”

Another elite NFL quarterback, Dallas Cowboys heartthrob Tony Romo took home the trophy in 2011 with a two-shot victory over former hockey player Dan Quinn (seen recently caddying on the PGA Tour for Ernie Els). Ray Romano has been a longtime participant, and soaps star Jack Wagner won in 2010.

Last year, the Drew Brees Celebrity Championship raised more than $181,000 for the Brees Dream Foundation, which donated the proceeds to Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego Armed Services YMCA, Friends of Scott Foundation and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society/Pacific South Coast Chapter.
